I like exploring how myth and dream, memory, culture and history live side-by-side with realism. I walk an aesthetic tightrope between comedy and tragedy. I know that every character is right in his or her own way. And that sometimes poetry, music, dancing or the well-timed joke speak better than prose.
I was born in the Midwest where I learned to dance and act, studied theatre and choreography. In New York I’ve served as choreographer, director and playwright on and off-Broadway, at regional theatres and in film. I’ve taught at Juilliard, Circle in the Square and Pace University. I earned an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. My fiction has been published in various lit mags, and my essays on dance, theatre and literature are found at the online digest 3 Quarks Daily. I am co-founder of Living Room Theatre, where we stage magnificent productions of new and classic plays on tiny budgets in intimate settings.
